Tooling
Plate Cell
Plate Cell focuses on tooling for routing and profiling sheet and plate stock on CNC equipment. It is aimed at jobs where edge quality, hold-down and repeatable feed settings matter on MDF, birch ply, ACM, solid surfacing, plastics and aluminium plate.

Plate stock routing focus
Plate Cell brings together tooling suited to CNC work on plate material, where clean edges and steady cutting make a difference on production jobs. Set the router for your bed, your sheet thickness and the edge you want.
Sheet work changes with density, thickness and how the board is supported on the bed. A 16 mm melamine panel needs different chip control to 3 mm aluminium plate, and the spindle, vacuum table and cutter geometry must be read together. In Gauteng dust build-up around spoilboards is one issue, while coastal shops often pay closer attention to corrosion on collets and holders.
Before a production run, check flatness, vacuum pull and cutter stick-out on the actual sheet size being loaded. One labelled note near the machine helps operators keep the chosen tool, depth strategy and edge requirement tied to the same job card. That is especially useful when multiple nests are being cut across one shift.
Scope
Plate Cell points to bits and coatings suited to nested cutting, trimming, pocketing and detail work where breakout, burrs or heat marks need attention. Machine capability, material stack-up and finish target should all be checked before the cut file is signed off.
Use Plate Cell alongside the relevant setup notes before changing tool diameter or moving to another material family. Confirm collet condition, spindle direction and sheet clamping before dispatch or collection. Bit orders depend on the shank size, the material and the router you run them on.

Workshop Factors That Change Plate Runs
Transport timing, collections through OR Tambo and handovers between workshop and buyer can affect how tooling is packed and labelled. Many shops run mixed work on older and newer CNC routers, so the note for Plate Cell must reflect the actual spindle, holder and bed condition in use. Separate urgent replacement tooling from planned production orders when the machine schedule is tight.
Near the coast, salt in the air makes storage discipline more important for cutters, collets and tool holders. Inland workshops often deal with heavier dust loading around rails, pumps and extraction, which changes maintenance intervals. During power interruptions, first-off checks and restart procedures should be recorded so feed and finish are not guessed after the machine comes back up.

Plate Cell briefing points
Send the material type, thickness, drawing intent and the fault you are trying to avoid. Include whether the problem is chip-out on the top face, burr formation, heat on plastics, poor hold-down, or fast tool wear on abrasive board.
Keep the machining note with the job card, tooling list and any sample edge photos from the run. That makes it easier to compare results when the same plate material comes back for repeat cutting or when another operator takes over the machine.
