Demo Path

Demo Path is the sample run we use to prove a cut on the chosen board, sheet, or plate before the full batch starts. It shows edge finish, tool marks, and route order on the actual material, whether that is MDF, plywood, acrylic, aluminium, or composite.

Sample Cut Before Full Nesting

Demo Path covers a sample cut that shows the finish, cutter choice and route before a bigger order goes ahead. It helps when a buyer wants proof on the material, not just a drawing or quote.

The demo piece is planned around the stock, spindle setup, and bit that will be used on the job. Feed rate, step-down, hold-down method, and chip clearance are checked so the trial cut reflects workshop conditions in Gauteng, the Cape, KZN, and smaller fabrication shops.

A good demo starts with the setup and the material thickness noted down. That record matters when a buyer wants the same finish repeated later, or when the cutter choice needs comparing against a rainbow-coated option from the rack.

What The Demo Shows

The sample confirms more than shape alone. It gives a visible read on burrs, breakout, edge polish, heat build-up, tab placement, and whether the route order leaves the part stable until the final pass.

Before widening the job, match Demo Path with the relevant Cells note and any tooling reference that affects finish or tool life. Do a final check on collet grip, zero point, and extraction before packing the sample. Bit orders depend on the shank size, the material and the router you run them on.

Workshop Conditions That Affect Results

Material storage, courier handling, and power interruptions all change how a test piece should be read. In Gauteng, dust and dry air can affect vacuum tables and rails, while coastal shops may need extra attention on corrosion, sheet condition, and tool storage.

On aluminium, the demo helps spot swarf packing and edge feathering before a longer run wastes stock. On MDF or birch ply, it can reveal fuzzing, tear-out on the exit side, and whether extraction is keeping the groove clean enough for a consistent finish.

Information Needed For Demo Path

Send the material type, thickness, drawing or file, and the feature that needs proving on the machine. That could be edge quality on acrylic, pocket depth on MDF, slot width on aluminium, or the look left by a specific rainbow-coated bit.

Write down spindle speed, feed, depth per pass, cutter diameter, and any hold-down notes while the machine is still set. When the sample goes to a buyer, those details help link the result back to the exact path and tooling used.
